In re: American Medical Collection Agency Inc. Customer Data Security Breach Litigation (MDL No. 19-md-2904) sits in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey. The plaintiffs say Laboratory Corp. of America Holdings handed patient billing to AMCA, a debt collector, and failed to make sure AMCA protected that data. AMCA's systems were breached between August 1, 2018 and March 30, 2019.

Labcorp denies wrongdoing and settled its portion for $35 million. Claims close September 3, 2026.

What was exposed

The breach may have reached names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, addresses, phone numbers and financial account details for roughly 7.7 million Labcorp patients whose bills went through AMCA. Quest Diagnostics and other defendants in the same MDL are handled under their own separate settlements, so this page covers only the Labcorp side.

Who the settlement covers

  • Your information was shared by Labcorp with AMCA and was potentially compromised in the August 2018 to March 2019 breach.
  • You are a U.S. resident who got laboratory services from Labcorp during that period with billing routed through AMCA.
  • You did not previously opt out.
  • If you were affected, you likely received a breach notification letter from Labcorp.

Two claim tiers and the status

The documented-loss tier reimburses up to $5,000 for receipts, bank statements, credit monitoring you paid for, professional services, and time spent at $25 per hour up to 10 hours. The alternative cash tier pays roughly $50 with no documentation. Everyone in the class receives two years of CyEx Medical Shield Pro credit monitoring even without filing.

The claim deadline is September 3, 2026, online or by mail with a postmark by that date.

Filing with the administrator

The settlement administrator runs AMCADataBreachSettlement.com. Choose your tier, upload documents if you are claiming losses, and submit. The administrator reviews claims, may ask for more support on documented-loss claims, and issues payments once the settlement is final. Questions go to 1-833-447-6786.

Filing is free. Payout, a free settlement-discovery app, lists this case as an optional secondary route; the administrator's site is the place claims are actually submitted.
