Americold, the cold-storage logistics company, faced a class action in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia (case 1:23-cv-05743-TWT) over two cybersecurity incidents, one around November 16, 2020 and another around April 26, 2023. The complaint says both exposed personal and protected health information belonging to employees, former employees, and job applicants.

Americold denies wrongdoing and has not admitted anything. It agreed to pay $5.25 million into a settlement fund if the court grants final approval.

The claims window is open until October 22, 2026. You file directly with the settlement administrator, free, using the Class Member ID from your notice.

The allegations in the lawsuit

The plaintiffs argued that Americold failed to protect the data it held on its workforce, and that the second incident in 2023 showed the first had not been fixed. The exposed information included health-related records, which is why the case was framed around protected health information as well as ordinary personal data.

Class members are people in the United States whom Americold notified about one incident or both.

What the settlement offers

  • An estimated $100 cash if Americold notified you about one incident, or an estimated $200 if it notified you about both, with no documents required.
  • Up to $25,000 for documented, unreimbursed losses tied to either incident, with receipts or records.
  • Three years of credit monitoring.
  • The cash estimates can move up or down depending on how many valid claims are filed.

Status and how the claim process works

The settlement is awaiting final approval, and claims are being accepted in the meantime. Open the Americold settlement site, select Submit Claim, and enter your Class Member ID. Pick the benefits you want, upload documentation only if you are claiming losses, and submit online or mail a form postmarked by October 22, 2026.

The administrator checks its own notification records to decide whether you were told about one incident or two. Payments follow final approval. Payout lists this case in its free app as a second way to reach the same form.
