Bradberry v. Equifax, the duplicate collection account case, and who can file
Last checked July 24, 2026
Bradberry v. Equifax Information Services LLC settled for $2.2 million over claims that Equifax reported the same collection account more than once on people's credit reports. Consumers who received an Equifax Duplicate Reporting Letter in August or September 2022 can file at DuplicateAccountFCRASettlement.com until September 1, 2026.
The case sits in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, docket 1:22-cv-04754-MLB. The plaintiffs sued under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the federal law that requires credit bureaus to keep reports accurate.
Equifax denies wrongdoing. The letters it mailed in 2022 are what define the class.
What the plaintiffs said went wrong
A single debt in collections showed up twice on the same credit report. The complaint argued that duplicate entries made people look more indebted than they were, dragged down credit scores, and led to declined loans or higher interest rates.
Equifax identified the affected consumers itself and mailed each one a Duplicate Reporting Letter in August or September 2022. That letter carries a Claim ID.
Who can file, and what the form asks
- You received a Duplicate Reporting Letter from Equifax in August or September 2022.
- You can affirm that the duplicate reporting harmed you, for example through a lower score, a declined application, or a higher rate.
- You are a U.S. resident covered by Equifax reporting during the affected period.
